LIBRARY WORKSHOPS

The Library offers various legal research workshops to support students throughout the year.

Hard-copy made easy:-

  • How to use Halsbury’s Laws, Halsbury’s Statutes, Current Law, and The Digest in paper format

Finding commentary:-

  • How to find commentary using LexisNavigator, Halbsury’s Laws and Practitioner works in electronic format

Finding case law:-

  • How to find case law using JustCite, Case Analysis and Case Search in electronic format

Finding legislation:-

  • How to find legislation using JustCite, UK Parliament Acts and UK Parliament SIs in electronic format

Finding journals:-

  • How to find legal journal articles using the Legal Journals Index in electronic format

The workshops are designed to support GDL students with their Legal Method & PfP assessments; LPC students with their PLR assessments; and BPTC students with the Legal Research and Opinion Writing assessments.

The workshops will be advertised on the library blog, and sign-up sheets will be available in the My Centre tab on ELITE.

The Library also arranges database training and certification workshops with database providers:-

  • Training sessions on 13 September, 14 October and 10 November
  • Lawtel Lessons and Online Tutorials available in Lawtel Help tab
  • Complete a workshop or lesson and take the Lawtel Certification Test

LexisLibrary:-

PLC Practical Law for Companies:-

  • Training on 19 October
  • Online User Guide available in the PLC Help tab

Westlaw:-

  • Training on 13 September, 14 October and 10 November
  • Westlaw Workouts and Online Tutorials available in Westlaw Help tab
  • Complete a workshop or workout and take the Westlaw Certification Test

HOW TO BOOK A WORKSHOP OR TRAINING SESSION

The workshops and tutorials are designed to support all law students.  The workshops will be advertised on the news page of the library webblog, and sign-up sheets will be available in the My Centre tab on ELITE.

Take advantage of the online tutorials or webex training if you are unable to attend those scheduled at College. 

Complete a database certification test to gain a certificate of competancy – a useful addition to any law student’s CV.
