After an extended hiatus the New Books list is back. All of the titles in the document below are now on the shelves in Birmingham. Now that it’s electives time you may want to take a look and see whether there are any titles that can help you. If there aren’t, we are happy to take suggestions for orders (though please bear in mind we reserve the right not to buy them, if they’re not deemed to be of benefit to the College as a whole or are just downright exhorbitant). Please check the blog at the end of each month for our list. We also keep a copy at the library counter.
Please note the list is arranged in classmark order.
Our opening hours this weekend are as follows:
- Saturday 28 Feburary 12 – 5 pm
- Sunday 1 March 12 – 5 pm (March already, only three months left!)
Well the chance of winning some anyway. Actually when I say money I mean vouchers. LexisNexis have launched their annual student survey and have added some remuneration as an incentive for your cooperation.
They’d like to know – amongst other things:
- How you conduct your research
- Where you go to find information
- What your thoughts are on legal research training
The survey will take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete and all students who complete it are eligible to be entered into a prize draw to win £1,000 of Virgin vouchers. Ten further entrants will be drawn at random and will each win £100 of Virgin vouchers. The closing date for entries this year is 20th March.
Our opening hours this weekend are:
- Saturday 21 February 12 – 5pm
- Sunday 22 February 12 – 5pm
There is a pile of the legal magazine Lawyer2B on the table near the newspapers in the library. There is a particularly useful article on CV and cover letter writing which takes you through the do’s and don’ts/rights and wrongs of impressing potential employers. The visual approach is good for anyone wanting to get the basics in about 5 minutes flat.
Look out also for an article featuring our very own LPC student Victoria Green; as well as a pull out guide to graduate recruitment.
Help yourselves

From the publishers of Solicitor’s Journal this legal quarterly is aimed at all who are on their way to qualifying; from students to trainees to the newly qualified.
Offering advice on how to go about constructing the career you want as well as insights into life as a lawyer/barrister, previous articles include:
- Project the right image – what are firms looking for in new recruits?
- Banking on it – financing your legal studies
- A sporting chance – working in sports law
