Dear students: This is just a quick reminder that the LexisNexis Student Associate scheme is still up and running in 2009. Now that all the mocks and real exams are out of the way (for the time being!) you may want to brush up on your legal research skills in order to improve for whatever examination you have to take next. So, if you have any queries about the use of LexisNexis Butterworth’s please send an email to lexisnexislawcollbham@live.co.uk  and you will be sent some advice asap! Also note that another competition will be set up over the coming weeks, so that you can get your hands on some more LexisNexis merchandise. All details will be posted on the Library blog and sent to your College email accounts.

As this weekend is a Part-time GDL study weekend our hours are extended.  We will be open on:

  • Saturday 31 January 12-8pm
  • Sunday 1 February 12-5pm

Our opening hours this weekend are:

  • Saturday 24 January 12 – 6pm
  • Sunday 25 January 12 – 6pm

Our opening hours this weekend are:

  • Saturday 17 January 12 – 5pm
  • Sunday 18 January 12 – 5pm

The library will be running sessions on researching journals and newspapers in the first week of February.  The idea is that after you’ve handed in your PfP1, those of you who may want to get some additional research advice in advance of preparing for your PfP2 will be able to do so by signing up for one of these sessions.  They’ll only be around 40 minutes in length and will be run on the basis of interest.  For part-time students only I will be willing to put on an evening session depending on numbers.

The purpose of this post is to find out how many are interested and when would be the best time to run the sessions.  If you can express your interest by Friday 23 January I’ll post confirmed session times for you to sign-up to in the week beginning 26 January.

Email me at natasha.skeen@lawcol.co.uk stating preferred day of the week and whether you’d prefer an a.m. or p.m. time slot.  Please be aware that session times will be arranged to suit the majority so apologies in advance if we can’t accommodate you.

Remember: Citing journals and newspapers shows your lecturers that you’re taking more than a minimal interest in your subject and not just sticking to the core texts/cases/legislation.

Welcome back!  After a much needed break, the cold hard winter continues.  Let’s hope you’re all ready for a term of more coursework, electives and of course exams.

If it all seems a bit too much, well why not take your mind off it (a little) with the Times Law Online.

Click below to read about:

Weird Cases.  Gary Slapper’s weekly column about the bizarre side of the law, as well as his round-up of   The weirdest legal cases of 2008

Or if that seems a little too lighthearted why not try the 5 part series: The cases that changed Britain.  This outlines some of the major cases that have affected the legal landscape of this country over the last 200 years.

Our opening hours this weekend are:
  • Saturday 10 January: 12.00pm – 5.00pm
  • Sunday 11 January: 12.00pm – 5.00pm
