I’d also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself; my name is Natasha Skeen and I will be covering Jackie Hanes’ maternity leave for the next 12 months.  If you have any enquiries or research needs please feel free to contact me either in person, by telephone on 01483 216012 or via email at natasha.skeen@lawcol.co.uk

Today, Friday 14 November, is my last day at work before starting maternity leave.  My baby is due in mid-December, and I am planning to take 12 months off work, and looking forward to having a lie-in on Monday morning!  I have known some of you for only a few weeks, and others for many years now.  I would like to thank you all for your words of support, and to wish you all the best during the rest of your time at College and beyond.

The College has appointed Natasha Skeen as Acting Information Officer to cover my maternity leave.  Natasha is a qualified and experienced librarian, and I am confident the library service is in capable hands.  Natasha was most recently employed as a Learning Resources Manager at a local high school, but has previously worked in the Harding Law Library at Birmingham University.

Natasha starts work on Monday 24 November, which leaves the library without an Information Officer for 1 week.  During this time, Renu Rajput, your full-time Information Assistant, will ensure the library service operates as normal.  However, please note that the library will open 1/2 hour later, at 9.00am during this week.  Please refer to the post below for further information on library opening hours.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but assure you it is only temporary during the changeover period.

  • Saturday 15 November: 12pm-5pm
  • Sunday 16 November: 12pm-5pm
  • The College premises and library both open from 12pm (noon).

  •  Monday 17 November: 9am-8pm
  • Tuesday 18 November: 9am-8pm
  • Wednesday 19 November: 9am-8pm
  • Thursday 20 November: 9am-8pm
  • Friday 21 November: 9am-6pm
  • The library will open 1/2 hour later at 9am due to library staff shortages.

  • Saturday 22 November: 12pm-6pm
  • Sunday 23 November: 12pm-6pm
  • The College premises will open at 8.30am, and the library will open at 12pm (noon).

  • Monday 24 November: 9am-8pm
  • The library will open 1/2 hour later at 9am due to library staff shortages.

Normal library opening times are expected to resume on Tuesday 25 November.

Are you interested in a career as a barrister?  The BBC are showing a four part documentary called The Barristers.  It starts at 9.00pm on Friday 14 November on BBC Two.  Alternatively, you’ll can watch it on i-Player on the BBC website.

We recently received anonymous feedback regarding the silent study / reading area in the library.

We appreciate that the location of library, adjacent to the central staircase, is unfortunate, and can lead to disruption during class changeoever periods.  However, we are not able to physically move either the library or staircase.  Therefore, I would ask all students to be mindfull of others as they enter and leave classes.  Please keep your noise levels to a miniumum, and avoid congregating either inside or outside the library, as this is disruptive to library users.

The library does have a silent study policy, and this is enforced by library staff.  However, we are not always aware of all noise in the library, especially in hidden areas of the library.  Therefore, if any library users are disobeying the silent study policy, please do inform a member of library staff, and they will deal with the matter accordingly.

All students are reminded that the Library is a Silent Study Area.

  • Please do not talk in the library (not even about College work)
  • Please turn your mobile phones to silent, and take calls outside the library
  • Please be quiet when entering and leaving the library from classes

If you wish to talk to your friends, about College work, or any other matter, then please use areas outside the library including the basement cafe and IT room, and student common areas on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors of the building.

We have noticed that student behaviour has been particularly poor this week.  Exams and assessments are not an excuse for poor behaviour in the library.  We will report students who ignore library rules to their respective heads of course.

This weekend, the library’s opening hours will be as follows:

  • Saturday 8 November: 12.00pm-5.00pm
  • Sunday 9 November: CLOSED

Please note that the College premises open at 12.00pm (noon) on Saturday 8 November, the entire building will be closed for maintenance work on Sunday 9 November.
